This scrolling caryatid depicting a woman is skilfully carved in high relief from a deeply coloured mahogany. The human torso flows into symmetrical scrolls form the body, finishing with a curled end resembling an acanthus leaf.

Reclaimed from a cabinet showcased in the second Swiss national exhibition of 1896 in Geneva. It was at this event that the automobile was introduced to Switzerland for the first time!
