About the collection
David Thomas Turner was a British collector of fossils, mineral specimens and artefacts of natural history. Born in East Yorkshire in 1945, Turner pursued a career in horticulture and had a keen interest in geology and the natural world.
On a visit to Speeton, East Yorkshire in 1973, Turner unearthed his passion for collecting fossils, discovering the first few pieces of his outstanding collection of prehistoric specimens. He later became Fields Visits Secretary for the Essex Rock and Mineral Society, organising trips to geological sites throughout the UK and travelling abroad to explore further discoveries.
Following Turner’s passing in 2023, his outstanding collection of ancient artefacts was dispersed. UK Heritage acquired various specimens from this interesting collection, complied by Turner through his years of discoveries.
