About this piece

This 19th century European carved oak panel was expertly crafted using a pierced relief technique.

A cherub sits atop a peony inside a ring of flowers tied with a bow. Scrolling foliage symmetrically envelopes the centre, culminating in a frieze along the top edge. Centred with the face of a putti in high relief, motifs of fruit, birds and scrolls spill out of the frame.

Originally, this would have been backed with some sort of rich fabric to accent the detail and intricacy of the piece.
