About this piece

A set of four 16th century hand carved Oak Panels With Animals.

This series of panels are dated to the mid 16th century. Crafted from English oak, each panel is carved in high relief with themes of foliage, fruit and mythical creatures.

In the top right panel, an unknown hooved creature looks up into flowering foliage. To the right, a winged beast is curled above an urn. The pot appears to emit flames over the top of branches with pine cones.

The bottom right shows another urn, with fruiting vies growing forth. To the right, a bird stands on another unknown beast eating from the same style vines.

Possibly part of a coffer or larger piece but long since removed, amazingly these panels have been preserved and kept together for hundreds of years.
