This monumental fossil’s scientific name is lower chalk Lewesiceras peramplum. Lewesiceras is a genus of large ammonites belonging to the order Ammonitida and the family Pachydiscidae.
It has a distinctive coiled shape with subtle ridges indicative of what once were the septa (walls) between its inner chambers.
This ammonite has an organic neutral stone-like tone with dark shaded areas, unlike other ammonites which are have a polished finish.
Preserved over millions of years, this superb ammonite is a striking interior piece, perfect for a display or collector’s cabinet.
