back to top‘Gravity’ is an interesting and unusual plaster nude torso sculpture mounted on an openwork copper base by British contemporary artist, Jim Cooper.
Signed and dated ‘9/97’ to the reverse, this lifesize plaster cast captures the nude torso of a female. She is positioned upside down with her back arched and legs projecting backwards as if diving, creating a sense of movement.
The cast itself is lightly weathered from where it has previously been situated outdoors. With its mounted base, it could be used again outdoors or styled as an interior sculpture, making a striking feature piece for a contemporary gallery or collector.
While not much is known about the artist, Cooper’s works are distinguishable at first glance, capturing the human form in various poses across many mediums. We recently acquired several pieces from the studio of Jim Cooper which can be found in their own exclusive collection on our website here.
