Plaster mounted to a reclaimed piece of Portland stone. Modern setting with reclaimed base. 3 Available that make up a graduated set. Transports as one piece. Stamp on reverse from maker. Loss to left arm, feet missing.

A Giovanni Domenico Giannelli (1775-1841) plaster statue of an Egyptian Goddess.

This highly detailed plaster bust sculpted by Giovanni Domenico Giannelli was crafted in 1805. Finished in a black finish to resemble black basalt by Wedgewood.

The figure is draped in a flowing, banded dress. Across the chest, hieroglyphics flow upwards, framing the head dress and shoulders. The model has rich level of detail, with the subject holding an object in each hand.

We are fortunate to have three of these models, all in varying condition, mounted on bespoke Portland stone stands. This is the smaller of the three, which make up a graduated set.

Giovanni Domenico Giannelli (1775-1841)

Giovanni Domenico Giannelli (1775-1841) was a student in the Copenhagen Academy, winning gold and silver medals in 1797 and 1799. In 1801 he applied for permission to go to England. Gianelli exhibited at the Royal Academy 1809-20, also from 33 Cock Lane, Snow Hill. Today a selection of his sought after works are held in the V&A and the National Portrait Gallery.
