back to topA 19th century bronze bust of Charles V after Leoni Leone.
Crafted circa 1800, this highly detailed bust portrays the sitter wearing a laurel wreath and classical drapery over what appears to be armor. Around his neck is the Order of the Golden Fleece, one of the most prestigious and historic orders of chivalry in the world.
The base is weighted to balance the height of the statue, which stands at 27cm.
Leoni Leone (1509-1590)
Lioni Leoni was an Italian sculptor regarded as the finest of the Cinquecento medallists. He made his reputation in commissions he received from the Habsburg monarchs Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and Philip II of Spain. His usual medium was bronze, although he also worked in marble.
