About this piece

A beautifully carved 19th century antique mahogany fire surround with an original French polish finish.

Dating from 1880, this handsome fireplace has withstood the test of time, the carvings still in excellent condition after more than 140 years of use. Decorative features include a generously carved frieze, detailed with an abundance of scrolling foliage centring around a classical urn, above equally as ornate column-like jambs with further carvings to the fireplace opening and shelf.

The French polish finish brings out the beauty of the mahogany, giving this antique fire surround its deep red-brown colour. It is a superb fireplace for a period property or classical feature for a 21st century townhouse.
