About this piece
back to topA late 19th/early 20th century antique oil on board painting of Warwick Castle. The artwork depicts the castle’s eastern front with its prominent round towers and historic gatehouse.
The painting may possibly be after the 1752 oil painting by Italian artist, Canaletto (1697-1768). Canaletto lived in Britain for over a decade before returning to Venice. Lord Brooke, the 1st Earl of Warwick, commissioned Canaletto to paint several depictions of Warwick Castle for his London residence following inheriting the castle and his title from his father in 1727.
