About this piece

An antique neoclassical stained glass window detailing a figure emblematic of the arts, one of four similar windows we are selling.

Dressed in robes, the female figure could represent Calliope, Greek Muse of epic poetry and Chief of the Muses. Calliope is often depicted with a scroll of paper and wearing a crown as she does in this window as she stands before a stack of books.

The central handpainted panel is surrounded by an array of plain yellow, red and blue glass panes in the same manner as the other panels we are selling. Together they would make a complementary and colourful set.
