back to topA 17th century hand carved English oak wall panel, formerly the front of a coffer or chest.
Dated to the 1600s, many hours of skilled work have gone into the creation of this piece. The original chest would have been crafted for someone of high wealth and importance, to hold all manner of treasures or relics. The original key entry sits at the top of the panel. A row of repeating raised lozenges run across the top edge of the panel.
A repeating cartwheel pattern repeats throughout all raised edges. The circular design frames three recessed central panels.
The central panels continue the theme with larger wheels, bordered with a jewelled rope design.
