back to topA 17th century hand carved English oak diamond wall panel, formerly the front of a coffer or chest.
Dated to the 1600s, many hours of skilled work have gone into the creation of this piece. The original chest would have been crafted for someone of high wealth and importance, to hold all manner of treasures or relics. The original key entry sits at the top of the panel.
A row of cuts repeat along the top edge, cleverly creating a twisting circular effect. Spinning cartwheel designs cascade down the centre column between the panels.
Two diamond motifs repeat within each frame with cartwheel designs interlaced with vines.
