This exceptional piece of European carving dates back to the mid 1600s. Depicting the mythical beast from medieval folklore, the cockatirce. A powerful creature, reputedly capable of turning its prey to stone.
The high relief panel is deeply carved into oak, showing the winged creature holding a ribbon in its beak. Scrolls roll out in different directions to resemble fruit and unusual patterns.
The panel is suspended in a box frame of exceptional quality, giving a deeply three-dimensional look.
