Dating from the late 19th / early 20th century, this reclaimed set of encaustic tiles are of a neo-medieval style. Made in buff, red and black colours, the tiles are of a floral design, resembling sprawling flowers in bloom.
Together, these 6-inch tiles create a striking panel suitable for a statement splash back or decorative panel in an interior.
Attributed to Malkin, Edge & Co, Burslem, Stoke on Trent which was in operation from 1899 to 1968. Located on Newport Lane, the encaustic tile works were known mainly for a wide range of richly enamelled tiles suited for walls and fire surrounds, many in the Art Nouveau style. The company also made a range of encaustic floor tiles in the style of competitors Minton and Godwin.
