About this piece
back to topA complementary set of 3 framed and glazed coloured engravings depicting scenes from 19th century London, each within a dark grey mount. The set includes:
‘Mansion House’, London
A coloured engraving by John Woods after a picture by Hablot Browne and Robert Garland which was published around 1837. To this day, the Grade II listed Palladian-style Mansion House is the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London. This engraving depicts the large attic on the roof before it was removed in 1843.
‘Fishmonger’s Hall’, London
Another coloured engraving depicting Fishmonger’s Hall near London Bridge, likely also by John Woods, after Francis William Topham and Robert Garland. Grade II listed Fishmonger’s Hall serves as the headquarters for the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers. After some of it’s earlier halls were lost in the 1666 Great Fire of London, the building was re-designed by Henry Roberts, completed around 1835.
‘The Port of London’
A further coloured engraving showing the Port of London on the River Thames and engraved by R. Sands after William Henry Bartlett, circa 1840.
