About this piece

A pair of original Georgian period neoclassical style lead garden urns with intricate designs of griffins, putti and floral patterns. Dating from circa 1800, these are unusually and impressively large for lead urns of this period.

Standing on a wide circular socle base, these lead urns are banded around the base with a geometric design beneath a wrapping of rich foliage. Above, two highly detailed scenes of winged putti are surrounded by animals. The rim is finished with a moulded rope design.

Perhaps the most distinctive feature of these urns is their striking scrolling griffin handles. The handles have an almost oriental look, blending with the neoclassical themes throughout.

These statement urns would suit all manner of locations. We are also selling a second pair under Stock No. 37448.
