About this piece
back to topA large and beautifully detailed late 20th century contemporary framed print of a Byzantine capital on a white mount housed within a glazed satin black frame.
This is just one of 5 similar prints we are selling, the others available as pairs.
The prints capture the details of an example of a different neoclassical architecture in fine black lines on off-white paper, each a reproduction print taken from an earlier architectural drawing.
This example showcases an illustration of a highly decorative Byzantine architectural capital which sees acanthus leaves decorating the body and scrolls to each side, similar to Roman Composite capital designs. To the cente, a circular boss completes the design adorned with a stylised monogram.
Similar capital examples can be found in the Women’s Gallery at St Sophia, Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey).
