About this piece
back to topA large and deep late 19th century Victorian carved oak fireplace of spectacular scale and quality, the rich warm wood colour brought to life with a wax finish. Not only large in size; this fireplace also has a very generous depth, making a statement as the standout feature of a main room (depth could be reduced to around 30 cm if desired).
An original of the late Victorian era, this impressive oak fireplace is evocative of the period, decoratively carved and considered throughout. This includes a heavily carved panel across the frieze that spans each edge and continues right to the very back of the surround, ensuring that its craftsmanship can be appreciated from every angle. The jambs are equally as impressive, repeating floral carvings decorating an arching corbel below carved end blocks to match the frieze. When viewing this antique oak fireplace from the front, this creates an impressive column-like design that instantly brings a sense of grandeur and history to a room.
