back to topA large scale early 18th century Italian neoclassical white marble bust of Apollo, circa 1720-1730.
Considered to be of Florentine origin, this impressive marble bust is believed to depict Apollo, Greek and Roman God of music, poetry, healing and prophecy. While weathered, the sculptural details of the bust are in good condition with features of the face still intact. The bust is handcrafted with chiselling marks clear and evident on the reverse.
There is also another bust of Apollo’s twin sister – Diana – pictured, details for which can be found under Stock No. 38268.
Both were discovered in a garden in Kent and were likely brought to Britain much earlier during the Grand Tour era by a wealthy traveller as mementos of European explorations.
