About this piece
back to topA unique carved oak door dating from the 1870s with an ornately crafted design to the front and simple, clean oak to the back. The carved side of the door is thought to pre-date the other by at least 100 years, making this a true architectural antique. It is intricately crafted with a variety of arched and geometric mouldings, but it is the intricate carving at the centre that makes this door a real showstopper. These two similar panels feature a pair of parakeets among an abundance of flowering foliage, finely carved in the oak in a style derived from the Arts and Crafts era or perhaps Anglo-Indian influences. Whether at the entrance to a dining room, a sophisticated home study or a bedroom, this carved oak door sets the tone in any period interior, telling the story of a talented woodworking artisan of times gone by.
