About this piece

A large antique solid bronze gothic style door knocker dating from the early 20th century and cast with ‘AD MDXXVI’ for the year 1516.

Highly ornate, this unusual door knocker has incredible levels of detail. It resembles a gothic style window with Queen depicted at the centre. While her identity is unknown, she is thought to represent the Virgin Mary or possibly Queen Mary I who was born in February 1516. Gargoyles or stylised lions hinge the knocker at either side while another ornaments the handle of the knocker.

This antique door knocker will make a striking feature at the entrance to any home but will be particularly fitting for an old ecclesiastical building such as a church or a converted chapel dwelling.
