About this piece
back to topA pair of large decorative corbels beautifully crafted in brocatelle marble. Dating from the 1850s, these marble corbels were likely once used as wall decoration or part of a large fireplace in a prestigious interior during the 19th century. Today, they make a striking pair of historical objects for an interior with their scrolling, neoclassical look and highly decorative brocatelle marble craftsmanship.
Brocatelle Marble
Originating from France, brocatelle marble is named after the Italian fabric of the same name. The fabric is characterised by its rich foliated pattern, much like the swirling veins found on the surface of the marble. Brocatelle marble was highly popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, frequently used in French interiors of the period.
