About this piece
back to topA large near lifesize Egyptian revival wooden figure depicting the Egyptian God, Osiris, the figure handcarved in a mummified form, with a panelled head cloth decorated with twin serpents to the top and arms crossed over chest, symbolic of ancient Egyptian royalty.
The Egyptian God, Osiris, is the Ruler of the Afterlife, associated with the dead, resurrection, fertility and agriculture. Here he is modelled standing and dressed as a Pharaoh with an Atef crown, reflecting his status as one of the most important Gods in ancient Egypt.
Skilfully handcrafted, the statue is carved in hardwood with an old worn paint finish. Across his chest, the God holds a flail and shepherd’s crook above his mummified legs which are decorated with stylised hieroglyphics.
Egyptian revival artworks such as this one were popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries, popularised by travellers and collectors as they discovered more about ancient Egyptian artefacts.
Suitable for interior use, this striking Egyptian statue will make a brilliant statement piece in a 21st century interior. It comes with the metal stand as pictured enabling it to be floor standing.
