An antique Edwardian mahogany fireplace by English furniture manufacturers, Waring & Gillow.

Though dating from the early 20th century, this mahogany fire surround draws influences from a range of earlier styles including Georgian, Regency and Victorian.

With a bowfronted shelf, it features a rich and appealing mahogany colour with an original finish, the frieze minimally decorated with a row of simple repeating decoration and two bullseye roundels above fluted jambs.

Waring & Gillow

English furniture makers Waring and Gillow were established in 1897 following the merger of two English manufacturers: Gillows of Lancaster and Waring of Liverpool.

In their heyday, Waring and Gillow were one of London’s most prestigious retailers. As such, they obtained contracts to furnish many luxury hotels, including the Ritz and the Carlton Hotel, as well as premier yachts and liners such as the HM Alberta.
