back to topA large antique buff terracotta wall plaque in the manner of Coade stone, circa 1850. Though this decorative exterior plaque is not marked with a maker’s name, it is typical of the styles of Blanchard or Blashfield.
This antique wall plaque would’ve originally been built into a wall as an architectural decoration to the facade of a building. Finely sculpted, the plaque takes after slightly earlier Georgian styling and is reminiscent of Coade stone paterae. It features a large central flower within a rope twist roundel, complete with foliage spandrels to each corner.
It’s placement outdoors has given it a weathered finish, darkening the pale buff terracotta tones in places, revealing a little of this plaque’s history. While weathered, the handcrafted details of the plaque remain intact, making a beautiful decorative feature of a garden wall in the 21st century home.
