Skilfully carved in low relief this unique work was created circa 1690. Highly stylised in a neoclassical manner, it is possibly a tribute to a Roman noble or emperor.

The unknown figure looking left has flowing hair adorned with jewels.

Signed and dated on the reverse, possibly by a previous owner as it is later than its creation.

It has been removed from a larger piece. The back is also lined with remnants of period newspaper.
