19th Century Statuary Marble Figure of a Reclining Woman & Child

A weathered 19^th century statuary marble figure of a reclining woman and child. This classical sculpture will make a beautiful interior display piece thanks to its large scale, measuring 60cm (23.62 in) wide.

Though the exact subject is unknown, the reclining nude female could depict the Roman goddess Venus with her son Cupid beside her. Alternatively, it may simply be a bather and child, the unknown sculptor having captured an affectionate moment between mother and infant in marble.

Whatever the subject, this sculpture is an interesting focal point for a connoisseur of neoclassical taste, looking impressive in a central position of a sideboard.
