About this piece

A 19th century neoclassical English walnut fire surround.

The jambs comprise of columns with fluted bases and Ionic capitals. Atop each is a framed pyramid which contrasts sharply with the floral cartwheels across the frieze.

The centrepiece is a hooded maiden with draping robes which is carved in high relief, also at a different height to the floral themes adding great depth to the piece.

This large scale piece has a strong presence and would make a striking feature to tie together Neoclassical themes.
