Condition Report

Good structural condition. Finished in a white paint which is a little discoloured and worn in places. Shrinkage splits here and there. Mantel was formerly shaped around a chimney breast and as such, it is partly cut out (see photos). Transports as 3 pieces (Jambs 25kg each; Frieze 51kg).

A huge scale Jacobean style English carved pine fireplace with old white paint finish and carved with the date 1688 to the frieze. We believe this surround to be of the period, containing original elements from the 17th century that have been later rebuilt and adapted.

It is impressively handcarved with ornate column-style jambs, a tapering mantel, flower decorations to the end blocks and scrolls to the frieze, the design continuing along each of the sides so that it can be viewed and admired from every angle.

With its large scale and glorious depth, this antique fire surround is ideally suited to a spacious interior, adding grandeur and prestige to any setting!
