About this piece

A collection of 5 antique neoclassical style decorative oval shields originating from France.

Made from tin, this set consists of one pair and three other shield designs, some of which are inspired by Greek mythology and Roman history. The central shield is embossed with the face of Medusa, her head slithering with snakes! Another depicts a Roman style cavalry shield, displaying four eagle wings, symbolising the Roman army, alongside lightning bolts, symbolising Jupiter, King of the Roman Gods. Others are brass fronted or decoratively applied with brass embellishments to the front.

Dating back to 1900, their simple yet impressive design would make for highly decorative wall decor in a home, or perhaps a castle as an ode to the battles fought years ago…
