back to topA striking red realgar orpiment mineral cabinet specimen from Palomo Mine, Castrouirreina Provence, Peru (now closed), ex. private collection.
This stunning specimen is made up of two very similar minerals: orpiment and realgar. The realgar provides a brilliant red colour while the orpiment showcases a yellow-orange hue, both of which were used in ancient eras to create inks, dyes and paints. As part of its unique geological structure, this specimen also displays areas of pyrite and sphalerite.
Presented on one of our medium painted plaster bases, this vibrant orpiment and realgar specimen is a superb display piece for a collector’s cabinet.
