This elegant pair of decorative grand tour pieces are models of Cleopatra’s Needles. A 3,500-year-old authentic ancient Egyptian obelisk standing 21 meters tall on the Victoria Embankment in London.
Its counterpart stands in Central Park New York. Gifted to the UK in 1819 to mark British military victories in Egypt, although it did not make its treacherous journey to its current location until 1878.
These black marble models are on stepped bases. Inscribed with ‘Obelisk Called Cleopatra’s Needle At Alexandria’ which commemorates the sculpture in its original origin.
