Garnkirk Fireclay Company

The Garnkirk Fireclay Works was established in 1831 and manufactured stoneware products until the company’s closure in 1901. Based in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, Garnkirk’s catalogue spanned a wide range of items including bricks and tiles as well as chimneypots and ornamental vases such as this one. The clay was popular across the globe for its beauty, strength and colour. A large Garnkirk urn was displayed at the Great Exhibition of 1851.
