About this piece

A beautiful matching pair of antique English carved oak caryatid brackets, dating to circa 1870. Handsomely carved, these oak brackets were previously used as ornate fireplace jambs.

Styled as classical caryatid style female masks above herm style scrolling corbels below, each female subject is expertly captured, carved with a crescent moon headpiece, earrings and two long braids that crossover at the centre.

Their very large scale, rich colour and appealing finish makes each oak bracket a stunning architectural element of an interior. Alternatively, the flat square tops could serve as a display plinth for decorative and sculptural pieces of art.

However you decide to style them, these ornate antique carved oak brackets are certain to catch the eye in any property with an appreciation for exquisite carving and classical décor.
