About this piece
back to topA large oak framed and glazed neoclassical plaster plaque depicting Bertel Thorvaldsen’s ‘Ages of Love’ in the style of Danish 19th century artist, Peter Ipsen (1815-1860).
Typically reproduced by Ipsen in terracotta, this plaster plaque is much larger than Ipsen’s terracotta works we have previously acquired, the white plaster figures moulded in relief before a red painted backdrop, synonymous of Ipsen’s style.
The subject is after Bertel Thorvaldsen’s ‘Ages of Love’ which is a classical scene of Greek and Roman mythology depicting a winged Psyche distributing angelic cupids as a symbol of love to men and women of all ages.
This large painted plaster panel is fully framed with glazing to the front and two hanging hooks to the top, ready for placement in an interior seeking classical subjects to decorate the walls of a room.
