About this piece

A large antique patent clay tile of the Meeting of Ulysses by R. Davies & Co.

The perfect decorative piece for a period property looking to add elegance and intrigue, while appreciating Greek mythology.

This 12-inch patent tile displays a sepia scene, in the Etruscan taste, of classically dressed figures titled ‘The Meeting of Ulysses and Penelope’.

Below the figures text reads ‘the length recov’ring to his arms she flew’ against the white glazed finish. It is impressed with the mark ‘Royal crest and Newcastle upon Tyne’, to the reverse side.

The scene is based on the hero Ulysses, who is reunited with his faithful wife Penelope, who resisted countless suitors while he was engaged in epic travels.
