About this piece
back to topA late 18th century French painted and gilded Tremeau mirror with an original aged mercury mirror plate to the bottom and a canvas on board painting to the top.
This antique mirror is a beautiful example of the French Tremeau style with its elaborate gilded details and sense of grandeur. The canvas on board painting to the top depicts an old pastoral scene with a mother and her son sat beside a river.
The scale and detail of this wall mirror will make a brilliant addition to a French inspired interior or bring a flourish of French elegance to a more contemporary space.
Provenance: From the collection of Scottish screenwriter and film producer, Allan Scott (b. 1939). Scott purchased the rights to Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ and brought it to screen in the Netflix miniseries in 2020.
