About this piece
back to topA lifesize bronze statue titled ‘The Three Kings’ by the acclaimed British sculptor, John W. Mills. This impressive, large scale bronze would make a striking statement piece in any setting, suitable for decorative interior use or outdoors as a unique modern centrepiece of a courtyard or pond surround.
Included with the sculpture is an original watercolour painting, signed by the artist and marked in pencil to the base ‘3 Kings 1985’; the perfect accompaniment to this impressive sculpture, allowing a glimpse into the artist’s creative process.
The Three Kings
Part of the artist’s dancer series, this sculpture is inspired by the Alvin Alley ballet ‘Les Trois Rois’, which features a pas de deux in which two figures dance to the music of Duke Ellington, who is the third King referred to in the title.
While this is a motionless, three-dimensional piece, it demonstrates the talent of the artist, the kings intertwined, capturing the essence of movement and grace, conveying not just the physical but the emotions and stories that dance conveys.
