About this piece
back to topA fascinating Italian Grand Tour collection of hand-worked 19th century specimen marble fragments and semi-precious stones, many with original collector’s labels.
This diverse set includes an array of different marble and stone samples, demonstrating a unique variation of colours, textures and natural formations. Some of these specimens were likely once used as architectural details as indicated by their worked form and distinctive shape.
This unique collection includes examples of both green and red porphyry as well as one piece darker fragment engraved with ‘Anzio 1877’, likely referring to the Italian city south of Rome.
Ex. private collection, this is an interesting group for the modern collector of ancient artefacts!
