Grand Tour Style Scale Architectural Model of an Archway
£1,475.00
A handsomely made bronze scale architectural model of an arched gateway circa 1880. It is of Grand Tour style, ornamented with a decorative finial to the top depicting a pair of squirrels between an urn with flowers. The bronze has a beautiful patina, making this scale model a stunning architectural antique for a bookcase, mantel or display table.
This bronze scale architectural model is believed to be based on Bishopsgate, one of the eastern gates in London’s former defensive wall. First built during the Roman times, the gate marked the beginning of Ermine Street, an ancient road running from London to York. It was rebuilt during the 15th and 18th centuries and later demolished in 1760.
