Goddard and Gibbs
Established in 1868 Goddard and Gibbs were a renowned stained glass studio producing traditional and contemporary pieces for various churches all over the world.
The company was initially established as Walter Gibbs & Sons on Blackfriars Road in London before the studio was taken over by James Clark & Sons, and in 1938 acquired Goddards Glass Works.
The was later taken over by James Clark & Eaton and in 1978 the studio was bought by Charles Clark.
This piece was possibly by chief designer John Lawson (1932-2009), who had joined the firm in 1970 from Faithcraft. However, the panel is not signed so this may require further research to make a firm attribution.
Goddard & Gibbs continued to keep continuity in the quality and design despite the various changes.
This panel is a wonderful ode to the Goddard & Gibbs vibrant designs.
