About this piece
back to topA fascinating early 20th century French white marble relief plaque of ecclesiastical theme, dated 1912 and indistinctly signed ‘Guidig’ to the bottom right hand corner.
The carved relief depicts an artistic interpretation of the ‘Expulsion from the Garden of Eden’ after the handpainted fresco by Italian Early Renaissance artist, Masaccio (1401-1428). The 15th century fresco resides in the Brancacci Chapel, Florence and tells the story of Adam and Eve’s dismissal from the Garden of Eden.
This is captured in this 1912 hand carved white marble relief, Adam and Eve detailed as cowering figures to the right beneath trees as they are addressed by Archangel Jophiel.
Ready for hanging, this decorative antique ecclesiastical wall panel will make a stunning addition to any interior wall.
Marble carving: 27.5 x 23.5 cm (10.83 x 9.25 in)
