Cast in high relief with complex detail, John the Baptist is depicted as a youthful character.

Shown with a halo with an obscured staff topped with a cross. He is often depicted as such to signify his divinity and that he was the forerunner, and prophet who announced the coming of Christ.

The sculpture is mounted to a light blue wooden panel, framed in a light oak. The front edge of the relief is marked with a cypher made up of letters and symbols.
