back to topEnglish Renaissance Revival Stone and Porphyry Fireplace. A 19th century Renaissance style fireplace carved from Istrian stone with semi-precious inlaid marble. The frieze panel inlaid with Egyptian Imperial red Porphyry, Ancient Green Peloponnesian Porphyry and lazurite. Supported on similarly panelled jambs. The jambs surmounted by carved ionic capitals.
Attributed to Sir Charles Barry and Thomas Allom.
A near identical example can be found in the Music room of Highclere Castle.
