About this piece
back to topAn antique English Georgian statuary white marble bust of a scholarly gentleman circa 1790, on an associated period breccia violette marble socle.
Exceptionally carved, the gentleman has a scholarly presence about him, wearing a wig atop his head, a waistcoat to his chest and a jacket around his shoulders. While the name of the subject is unknown, one would assume from his attire that the bust takes the likeness of an 18th century person of note such as a lawyer, barrister or MP.
Over 230 years old, this antique marble bust has stood the test of time with details of the gentleman’s face and clothing still clear and distinctive after more than two centuries. Steeped in history, you can just imagine this large bust once stood upon a pedestal in the grand hallway of a period Georgian townhouse.
If looking to add prestige and history to your home, this bust is the perfect piece.
