About this piece
back to topDating from the 1870s, this decorative antique corbel figure was once used to embellish a ceiling, perhaps of a prestigious Victorian banqueting hall. Due to its age, it is today more suited to interior decoration as an object of interest steeped in history for a display cabinet or live-in museum. It has a distinctly mock medieval look, depicting a moulded figure sat cross-legged wearing a Tudor style cap, tunic with large, embellished collar and what appears to be a paint palette or book in their left hand. There are various chips, losses and a distressed paint finish that tell the story of this charmingly decorative architectural antique.
