Gordon Walkden (1944-2022) was emeritus Professor of Geology at Aberdeen University and amassed an outstanding private collection of fossils and natural specimens throughout his career.

Affectionally known as Aberdeen’s answer to Indiana Jones, Walkden contributed enormously to research through his papers and talks on British marbles, minerals and fossils.

Highly respected in his field, Walkden was active throughout his retirement. He was even invited to Windsor Castle to identify marbles used in the Albert Memorial Chapel.

This collection contains a number of select natural specimen’s acquired from the late Professor’s private collection. Highlights include a superb iridescent red lustre ammonite fossil as well as a striking large tropaeum ammonite from Whale Chine, Isle of Wight.
