About this piece
back to topSourced from a country estate in the west of Scotland, this hand carved Adam style sandstone urn is a spectacular ornament for a prestigious garden or townhouse courtyard. Dating from the 19th century, it is one of various sandstone urns we are selling from the same location.
Oval in shape, this antique sandstone urn nods to 18th century Adam style, defined by its sweeping top, carved drapery swags and striking finial, intricately carved in a pineapple type shape formed of leaves and berries. Circa 1850, the hand carved details are well defined, having stood the test of time for over 170 years. The lower half is partially carved with leaf-fluted sides above a socle on a rectangular base.
