About this piece
back to topA very ornately carved baroque style oak fireplace dating from the late 19th century, circa 1880. Arguably a piece of art in itself, this handsome antique fire surround is a spectacular piece, the hand carved details having stood the test of time for more than 140 years.
The jambs, carved with scrolls and foliage, stand between a sweeping shaped frieze with a highly detailed carved mask of a bearded man to the centre below a raised shelf. The mask itself is a remarkable feature, the face carved with exquisite and lifelike detail.
Highly elaborate, this antique oak fire surround is an impressive chimneypiece for any setting, capturing the intricate grandeur of the earlier Baroque styles. Crafted at the hand of a talented 19th century woodcarver, it’s superb craftsmanship is certain to become the focal point of any 21st century property old or new.
